The UAE capital is one of the most visited cities in the Emirate with its popular tourist landmarks , fun things to do and natural beauty. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Abu Dhabi is the expansive and picturesque desert. While desert adventures are popular with the masses, stargazing in the desert is an amazing experience to enjoy in Abu Dhabi.
Located in the middle of the desert in Al Wathba South, the Abu Dhabi space observatory is giving astronomy fans in the UAE the chance to gaze into space like never before. Since its opening in 2016, Abu Dhabi’s space observatory, Al Sadeem Astronomy, has delighted amateur astronomers and stargazers.
Founded by Thabet Al Qaissieh and Alejandro ‘Andy’ Palado, the Astronomy center is a great attraction for the community to explore astronomy. The observatory has become a hub for all space enthusiasts in Abu Dhabi - a place to go and learn about the incredible universe.
Al Sadeem Astronomy also hosts interesting lectures on space and astronomy that follow the STEM program and indulge in planetary and deep sky observations.
The two-storey observatory consists of a 5,5 metre, 360-degree rotational dome made entirely of fibreglass, with a Meade LX850, 16-inch telescope mounted in the centre. You’ll find several highly-advanced telescopes inside that provide brilliant opportunities for stargazing and viewings of space.
Al Sadeem Astronomy also has a unique inflatable portable planetarium, which is 4 metres in diameter and can seat 15-20 people. The planetarium’s large, dome-shaped projection screen will have you (and the kids!) in awe as scenes of stars, planets and other celestial objects appear and move realistically, simulating the heavens above. Being portable, the planetarium offers popular educational and entertaining shows for schools, malls and parks.
Outdoor adventurists looking for some nature-filled adventure must visit UAE. And if you’re planning a Dubai vacation, then we highly recommend you compile your list of places to visit in Dubai and then add these top places to visit in Abu Dhabi to your list. And make your way to Abu Dhabi before or after your Dubai trip.
